Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) is an MR technique in which contrast within the image is based on microscopic motion of water. DWI plays an important role because it provides information that is not available on standard T1- and T2-weighted MR images. It is more sensitive for the early detection of stroke than standard pulse sequences and is closely related to temperature mapping. In this program, we look at the physical concepts and clinical applications of utilizing diffusion weighted imaging.
